Its a fact that English is a universal language; thus everyone knows its basic grammar like the nouns, tenses and the pronouns list. But when it comes to a foreign language, there are many aspects to keep in mind. Traditional classrooms put too much emphasis on grammar and many times, students can hardly speak the language. Getting stuck on all the rules and structure of a language makes it difficult to achieve fluency in a foreign language.
That’s why at inlingua Malta, we learn English by practicing speaking, listening, reading and writing. As they say, the best way to learn is like a child. When children learn their mother tongue, they don’t get stuck on all the rules! They just start without fear of making mistakes. We’ll be going over our three tips to give you confidence in learning English as a foreign language.
Make mistakes
The more mistakes that you make, the faster you can learn. So make as many mistakes as you can and you will learn English in no time. At inlingua Malta, everyone’s here to learn and all students make mistakes, so don’t be scared…make mistakes!
Have conversations
No one will laugh at you for pronouncing something incorrectly or making a mistake. Having a conversation in English is the best way to challenge yourself and get closer to achieving fluency. At inlingua Malta we have great opportunities for making conversations, including our conversation classes as well as our conversation activities outside of the classroom!
Live the language
Our language school is based on the island of Malta where English is one of the two official languages. You will have the chance to be fully immersed in the language from your daily interactions from making a purchase at a shop to taking the bus. Not to mention, you will speak English with your new friends from all around the world. We make learning a foreign language a piece of cake!
So is grammar important?
Grammar is important as it sets the rules and structure for a language. However, grammar is not something that should hold you back from learning a language and being able to have conversations with confidence. Our only advice: follow what your inlingua trainer tells you to do and practice by speaking and writing!
Established in 1980 and boasting 39 years of experience, we pride ourselves on being the 2nd language school established on the island. We offer something for everyone – with guaranteed start dates for every course, every Monday of the year!
